Pompano lab joins the UVA Cancer Center

We are thrilled to be the newest member of the UVA Cancer Center as part of the Immunology & Immunotherapy Program.  We look forward to participating in the research of the center and being part of a community that seeks to find treatments and cures for such a devastating set of diseases.

The UVA Cancer Center is one of a prestigious national network of centers supported by the National Cancer Institute at the NIH.

Dr. Pompano goes to Richmond capitol

On January 12, 2017, the first Thursday of the legislative session, Colleen Taylor (faculty at Virginia State) and Rebecca Pompano (UVA) participated in Virginia Higher Education Advocacy Day at the Virginia General Assembly in Richmond.  The theme of the day was “Hands off Higher Education -- Maintaining Commonwealth Support for Higher Education.”

As faculty, we urged our state delegates and senators to resist the temptation to cut funds further from public education: state funding per student already declined by 46% and 31% for 4-year and community colleges respectively, from FY 2001 to FY 2014.(1)  Funding for education directly affects the quality of science training that Virginia students receive to prepare them for future careers and active citizenship.

We especially thank Charlottesville's Delegate David Toscano for taking the time to meet with us.  We appreciate his strong ongoing support for higher education.

BIG Center

We have recently joined the Center for Brain Immunology and Glia (BIG) as an adjunct member.  We are excited to use this new connection to expand our research into Alzheimer's and Multiple Sclerosis.  For more information on this center click the image above

Pompano lab joins the NanoSTAR Institute

We are pleased to be part of the Biomedicine arm of NanoSTAR, the Institute for Nanoscale and Quantum Scientific and Technological Advanced Research at the University of Virginia!

Prof. Pompano joins the Beirne B. Carter Center for Immunology Research

Our lab is now the newest member of the Beirne B. Carter Center for Immunology Research.  The Center is headed by Dr. Thomas J. Braciale and is a strong community of immunologists who seek to "unlock the underlying mechanisms of disease."  We are looking forward to being part of this energetic organization.
